About our cause

Swansea Galaxy FC ia an LGBTQ+ Football club for all provides a much loved and valued service for the community.

We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service, by providing Free / discounted training sessions, pay for equipment and support in travel costs for match days around the UK!

Building a supportive network is crucial for the LGBTQ+ community, especially within football which is still  a homophobic, transphobic racist and sexist sport, and here is why.

LGBTQ+ community members are twice as likely to experience anxiety and stress, than our heterosexual counterparts. Half of the community are living with depression, or are classified as neurodiverse, one in ten are struggling with addiction, 24 % are deemed to be living in poverty and almost 40% of the community say that at some point in the last year they felt that life was not worth living.

Behind each of these statistics there is life of a person who has experienced and struggled with suffering and pain, some of their issues might even need medical attention, but all of the research shows time and time again that so many of these issues can be prevented, and turned around through strong connections with other people. It can be hard when we are low or stressed out to reach out, but when out connections and network are in place this is when it can really help us, people notice when we have gone quiet or that they haven’t seen us for a while, they ask us how are we doing, they can guide an counsel us, or they can just get out doing something different and when things are really bad they can help us with the things that we can’t help ourselves with, which is why it is so important to invest in these connections, the networks and the friendships when times are good, when we are feeling ok, its good for us mentally and physically, and its good for other people to feed of this positive energy.

Swansea Galaxy Football Club has been able to support the LGBTQ+ Community by creating this space that is open to everyone, and provide a network of like minded people that does not exist anywhere else in the area. It encourages wellbeing both mental health and physical health, it encourages socialising, team building and togetherness in an area that normally excludes the LGBTQ+ community.

Thank you for your support and good luck!
